National Palliative Care Week Celebration at Dove Specialist Care Unit
Bringing joy and community together at Dove Specialist Palliative Care Unit.
Patients and their families were treated to a special onsite wish experience as part of a National Palliative Care Week event on the Sunshine Coast. Bella the Macaw from Maleny Bird World made her way around the ward, delighting everyone she met. She was a big hit with everyone, especially Ernie, who shared a particularly special moment with her.
The day was made even brighter with visits from the Wishlist therapy dogs and other support services.
Beyond the joy of the day, the event also helped connect community members with valuable support services, including Mingary Care, Blue Care, Cittamani, Hospital In Your Home and the Carers Club.
Incredibly, thanks to the generosity of those in attendance, more than $400 was raised for Ambulance Wish Queensland through a wonderful bake sale. We are incredibly grateful for this donation and Dove’s ongoing support.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this day so meaningful, with a special thanks to Karly, Wendy and the team from Dove Specialist Palliative care unit for organising the day.
Thank you to our wonderful wish team for fulfilling this last wish and for creating memories forever for their loved ones.
Thank you to our service partner Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service – Dove Palliative Care Specialist Palliative Care Unit and the support of Melva and Bella from Manley Botanic Gardens and Bird World on this special occasion.
Ambulance Wish Queensland is the signature program of Palliative Care Queensland and is proudly supported by the Queensland Government, and we thank the staff and volunteers at both Queensland Health and Queensland Ambulance Service who help our team to fulfil wishes and create memories.
