From one wish to 300: Ambulance Wish Queensland fulfils 300 wishes for Queenslanders with a life-limiting illness
Ambulance Wish Queensland, the signature program of Palliative Care Queensland, helps Queenslanders at the end-of-life fulfil unforgettable final wishes, creating meaningful moments and lasting memories for individuals and their families.
During National Palliative Care Week 2026, under the theme “Getting to the heart of it: Big questions. Real answers,” the program marked a significant milestone with its 300th wish.
This milestone wish was a deeply personal journey for Roma, who visited her late husband’s grave at Drayton Cemetery on the fifth anniversary of his passing. The day concluded with lunch at Picnic Point, shared with her daughters Roma Jnr and Annie.
Roma’s wish reflects what matters most to her: love, connection, remembrance and the bond between two people that have shared a lifetime together. It was a powerful reminder that love endures, even across time.
Roma’s wish was fulfilled on Monday the 11th of May, aligning with the anniversary of her husband’s death, making the moment especially significant for Roma and her family.
Ambulance Wish Queensland is supported by an extraordinary network of community volunteers, clinicians, nurses, and Queensland Ambulance Service volunteer paramedics, who generously donate their time to ensure each wish is delivered with dignity, care, and compassion.
Palliative Care Queensland CEO Louise O’Neill said reaching 300 wishes is a powerful reflection of community compassion, the thousands of hours of support from Queenslanders, and the growing importance of personalised care and individual choice.
“Every wish fulfilled through Ambulance Wish Queensland creates a meaningful and unique moment for Queenslanders and their families, showing just how powerful compassion and connection can be,” Ms O’Neill said.
“It’s a reminder of the importance of social connection and making every memory matter.”
“This milestone, reached during National Palliative Care Week, truly does get to the heart of palliative care. Ensuring that what matters most to people is communicated and honoured and remains central at the end-of-life.”
“The growth from 200 to 300 wishes in little over a year, highlights Queenslanders need for quality, palliative and end of life care in all communities.“
Thank you to our wonderful wish team volunteers Rowen, Tracey and Clinical Escort Lucinda for fulfilling this last wish and Matt Ryan the photographer for creating memories forever for their loved ones.
