Volunteer with Ambulance Wish Queensland

The backbone of Ambulance Wish Queensland are our volunteers.
They support the program administration and wish recipients to fulfil their wishes.

PCQ’s vision of a Volunteer Village developed from our Queensland Compassionate Communities (QCC) stream, which aims to build networks of support around Queenslanders experiencing loss, ageing, dying and grief.

PCQ considers that the Volunteer Village as the compassionate community that surrounds PCQ.

Our Villagers (the Volunteers within our Volunteer Village) are all ages, cultures, skills, and experiences. Some Villagers volunteer for a long time, while others only a short time. However, they all share a passion for helping individuals that are experiencing dying, death and bereaved, their loved ones as well as the services and supports that surround them to make moments matter.

PCQ has worked with volunteers throughout our history. The Volunteer Village concept was founded in 2019 following the launch of our Ambulance Wish Queensland program where over 150 volunteers expressed their interest in the program. The first Volunteer Village Coordinator was employed in 2020 and the Volunteer Village grew and developed into its own program with a statewide focus in 2020.

PCQ believe that just as it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to care for the dying.

Current Volunteering Opportunities

We are currently not seeking applications for new volunteers so please check our website in the coming months for any potential new opportunities.

There are other ways to support us by attending our upcoming Ambulance Wish fundraising dinner or becoming a community fundraiser to raise vital funds to continue the work of Palliative Care Queensland.
