Mary’s wish was to visit Kings Beach to go on the sand and be near the water

On Monday 27th February, for her Wish, Mary wanted to take a trip to King’s beach to do something that brings a smile to all of our faces when we visit the beach; dip her toes in the sparkling, cool waters of the ocean and feel the warmth of the sun on her face.

Our team picked Mary up from Dove Hospice to head towards the ocean on a spectacular Sunshine Coast morning along with her niece Caroline, her friend Janine, and her best friend Clover the Basset Hound.

As the sun shone down, the sands glittered, and the sea sparkled; it was almost as if nature mirrored Mary’s joy and excitement as she saw her destination come into view and memories forever were beginning to be created. As you can appreciate, crossing the sands when your mobility is limited can be a challenge, but thanks to our new friend Rundy at Healing Sea, a solution was at hand. Enter Rundy’s Beach Wheelchair, a specially adapted all-terrain wheelchair that means that accessibility to the beach is no longer a problem.

Safely transferred to the Beach Wheelchair, with Janine, Caroline and Clover never leaving her side, Mary was taken to the edge of the surf to fulfil her wish. As the cooling waters washed over her feet and she dug her toes into the sand, Janine’s lifelong love of the sun, seas and surf was evident to see as she relaxed, smiled, and enjoyed every moment of her time doing something she loved with the people and companions that matter to her the most.

Thank you to our wonderful wish team Jess, Sue and Katie for fulling this last wish and Adore You Photography and creating memories forever. Thank you to Rundy from Healing Sea for going over and above to make this last wish happen.

Thank you to @SunshineCoastHHS -Dove Palliative Care Unit for partnering with us on this special occasion to fulfil Mary’s wish.
