Steven “Fred’s” wish was to attend the Gatton Races
For Steven (lovingly known as “Fred”), the smell of freshly cut turf and the sound of a bugle sounding the first call of a horse race was the one thing he wished for the most; a day out at the races with his family and friends. Former horse owner, breeder and trainer for over 30 years, Fred was joined by his wife Carol, sons Daniel and Jake, close family friends and stable mates to enjoy a day watching horses thunder down the track.
Fred wore his best Sydney Roosters jersey and cap for the occasion, and the running of Race 4, named in honour of Fred by the Lockyer Valley Turf Club at Gatton, had everyone cheering and roaring with delight. It was the highlight of a day filled with stories of Fred’s time at the track and his proclivity to bicker with his mates over horses trained and owned.
Thank you to our wonderful wish team Sophie, Lucy and Nicola for fulfilling this last wish and Lachlan for creating memories forever for their loved ones.
Thank you to our service partner Ipswich Hospice and the support of Lockyer Valley Turf Club on this special occasion.
