Shukri’s Wish was to spend time with her brother and cousin outside of the hospital
For Shukri, family has always been a central part of her life, but for Shukri’s family, like many families with members spread across the globe, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that reunions have been difficult.
One of the family members most dear to Shukri is her brother Mahad, who is based in London, meaning half a world has separated the siblings for several years. With Mahad able to make the trip down under, a reunion was possible, and Shukri wanted their meeting to be outside in the beautiful Brisbane sunshine.
Ambulance Wish Queensland was delighted to take Shukri from St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane to Calamvale District Park for an all-important reunion and family photos with Mahad and cousin Ayan.
The trio was then taken to Shukri’s home, where they could catch up, reminisce, and spend quality time together as a family. For everyone involved, it was a privilege to help a family reunite across 16,500km and spend a wonderful afternoon in each other’s company, creating memories that will last forever.
Thank you to Mark, Ella, Tara and Alicea, who fulfilled Shukri’s Wish and St Vincent’s Private Hospital and Ange Costes Photography for their support.
Ambulance Wish Queensland is proudly supported by the Queensland Government, and we thank the staff and volunteers at both Queensland Health and Queensland Ambulance Service who help our Palliative Care Queensland team to fulfil wishes and create memories forever.
