Mingary Care Becomes Ambulance Wish Queensland’s Local Supporting Partner

Ambulance Wish Queensland is delighted to welcome Mingary Care to our family of supporters and partners as the Sunshine Coast not-for-profit becomes a Supporting Partner. We caught up with Sue Mason-Baker, Managing Director of Mingary Care to learn about the partnership and how Ambulance Wish Queensland aligns with their key strategic priorities.

“At Mingary Care, we have four pillars that make up our model of care,” says Sue. “They are Community awareness, Services, Supports and Last wishes. As we have seen Ambulance Wish Queensland grow and the incredible stories and memories forever that each wish creates, we couldn’t help but be inspired.”

“So, we decided to commit to supporting the program, which will increase Ambulance Wish Queensland’s capacity to deliver more wishes to those at end-of-life and that adds value to our work and meets one of our care objectives.”

It is also the powerful legacy that each wish creates that resonated with the Mingary Care Team, “Ambulance Wish Queensland’s impact is about making memories for the wish recipient and their loved ones. To fulfil a life-long wish or share special time together, carefully planned and executed by the AWQ team, is truly powerful. For patients to be able to spend a day away from a hospital or hospice and to forget the inevitable for a short time and live in the moment has a clear benefit to everyone involved, and the photographs captured on the day create a permanent reminder of a special and happy occasion that those left behind will treasure forever.”

As the program grows, the Mingary Team are excited to be part of Wish fulfilment across their region, “We are also keen to be involved in Wishes on the Sunshine Coast, and I know that our team is excited to be involved and to help create magical moments that are priceless for wish recipients and those that they love and share those special moments with,” said Sue.

Palliative Care Queensland CEO Louise O’Neill welcomed the opportunity to partner with Mingary Care, “I am delighted that Mingary Care has chosen to support Ambulance Wish Queensland. Their values, commitment to care and dedication to supporting people approaching their end of life make them the perfect partner for Ambulance Wish Queensland. We thank them for their support and look forward to working with them to create memories forever for patients, families and communities on the Sunshine Coast.”

Mingary Care is a not-for-profit charity established in 2008 delivering free, short term crisis palliative care and end-of-life services and supports for people on the Sunshine Coast. The palliative care sector is significantly underfunded, and the fragmented health system relies heavily on carers and families to carry the burden of care. Mingary Care aims to fill the gaps in services and supports in a responsive and timely manner. They work on a referral basis and engage local community care providers to deliver in-home care on our behalf. Their geographical region is the Sunshine Coast Hospital & Health Service. They do not receive any government funding. Mingary Care raises all its revenue from four Op Shops as well as through donations and fundraising.

Ambulance Wish Queensland is a program developed and run by Palliative Care Queensland.
