Lewis’s wish was to visit D-Bar Beach at Point Danger with his family

For Lewis, there is something special about being close to the ocean, and as a long-time surfer, many of Lewis’ fondest memories were created riding the waves on his board as a teenager. And that’s no surprise because, for Lewis, those memories were created in the sparkling waters of Duranbah Beach known locally as “Dee-bah”. So, for his Ambulance Wish on Tuesday 7th February, Lewis wanted to take a trip to Point Danger Lookout situated on the NSW/Qld boarder, high on a peak, to spend a day with his loved ones overlooking “Dee-Bah” and watching the surfers.

With wife Kerrie, children Miranda and Eliza, grandchildren Clementine and Jack, brother Evett and dog Nugget accompanying Lewis, it was clear that he was very much in his element. As the family enjoyed a delicious mud crab lunch, overlooking the golden sands and bluest of blue oceans, Lewis entertained them with reminiscences of his days in the surf, the spectacular waves he rode, the ones that got away and the characters and personalities he met.

The family also enjoyed witnessing a spectacular flypast of RAAF F/A-18F Super Hornets, which were almost close enough so that it felt as if you could reach out and touch them. With the noise and speed of the aircraft bringing a smile to everyone’s faces and creating another memory forever for three generations of Lewis’ family, it was the perfect way to round out Lewis’s wish.

Thank you to our wonderful wish team Mark, Julie, Dale and Joel for fulling this last wish and creating memories forever and Ange Costes Photography for her support.

Thank you to Robina Hospital Palliative Care Unit for partnering with us on this special occasion to fulfil Lewis’s wish.
