Celebrating Our Volunteers on International Volunteer Day 2024
This week, we had the privilege of joining fellow Queenslanders in celebrating the power of our volunteers, who are truly the heart and soul of our organisation. Their dedication and passion make a profound difference in the lives of so many. Palliative Care Queensland (PCQ) and Ambulance Wish Queensland (AWQ) are honoured to be recognising their contribution, not only to our programs but to the strengthening of compassionate communities.
As part of the celebrations, Ambulance Wish Queensland hosted our volunteers at a special thank you afternoon tea, where we reflected on their incredible contributions and achievements – with those who have donated 25+ hours throughout 23-24 receiving Shining Star Certificates and volunteers that donated an incredible 100 hours receiving Milestone Lapel Pins. A small recognition of those who give so selflessly.
Thank you to the generous sponsorship of Sterri-Matt for making this event possible.
Beyond the program’s celebrations, our CEO Louise O’Neill and volunteer Richard Galeano had the privilege of an invitation to attend a morning tea at Government House. This special event, hosted by the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr. Jeannette Young AC PSM, and Professor Graeme Nimmo RDF, brought together organisations and volunteers – celebrating the collective impact of volunteering across the state.
On International Volunteers Day and in the spirit of giving back, Palliative Care Queensland and Ambulance Wish Staff donated their time to support Mingary Care. The team provided gift wrapping services to customers at Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore, spreading holiday cheer and raising awareness for this important cause.
In Townsville, our staff hand delivered wonderful gift bags to our volunteers from the local Ambulance station. Each bag was filled with treats like chocolates, coffee vouchers, and AWQ/PCQ pins, all meant to show our gratitude for the amazing impact they have on our regional community.
As we mark this time and celebrate our volunteers, PCQ and AWQ once again extend our thanks to every volunteer across Townsville, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Brisbane that has contributed their time, energy and passion to our programs and initiatives. Every hour you give makes a significant difference to Queenslanders living with a life-limiting illness. We are forever grateful for your continued involvement and deeply appreciative of everything you do.
