A Day of Reflection and Celebration at Palliative Care Queensland’s Volunteer Event

Last Saturday, the 21st October, at The Matriarch Newstead, Palliative Care Queensland (PCQ) held it’s first of many volunteer events. With a delicious high tea sponsored by Sterri-Matt, this gathering provided a wonderful opportunity for Louise O’Neill, PCQ CEO, to express our profound gratitude to the remarkable volunteers who play an integral role in the success of our programs. Our selfless volunteers consistently go above and beyond in their commitment to providing compassionate care and support to those facing life-limiting illnesses and we wanted to take this occasion to celebrate their invaluable contributions.  

One of the memorable moments of the high tea was when PCQ asked each volunteer to share what their last wish would be. It was a powerful reminder that knowing what truly matters is essential all stages of life. For those facing life-limiting illnesses, understanding these wishes becomes crucial for both health care professionals and their loved ones. Our volunteers’ responses were not only poignant but also a testament to the importance that often the simple things are what matters most and the beauty of life’s simplicity. 

Our volunteers who provide comfort and support to those in need, are at the forefront of a movement to promote death literacy and recognise the significance of palliative care for all.   

We are immensely grateful for the volunteers’ continued support, and their willingness to open their hearts and share what their last wishes would be.
