Ambulance Wish Queensland celebrates fulfilling 200 Wishes for Queenslanders living with a life-limiting illness.

Ambulance Wish Queensland, the signature program of Palliative Care Queensland, is all about helping create unique and unforgettable memories for Queenslanders as they navigate the last special moments of their lives, like Robyn, our 200th Wish recipient, fulfilling her Wish to renew her marriage vows with her husband.

The program is supported by an incredible group of volunteer Queensland Ambulance Service Paramedics, nurses, doctors and community members who make every Wish possible.

On Friday 7th February, Ambulance Wish Queensland fulfilled its 200th Wish with a vow renewal ceremony at Wynnum Beach.

Palliative Care CEO Louise O’Neill said that the 200th Wish marked a significant milestone, and demonstrates the community resilience of Queenslanders helping Queenslanders.

‘Ambulance Wish Queensland is a reminder of the importance of social connection and making every memory matter.’

‘With 39,000 Queenslanders dying each year and over 27,000 of those having an expected death, palliative care is an essential part of ensuring each person has the best comfort and support to the very end.’

‘Ambulance Wish Queensland is growing rapidly in fulfilling wishes and showcases what great compassionate palliative care means to our Queensland communities.’

‘Having now fulfilled 200 Wishes, our team is incredibly grateful for the support of our volunteers, sponsors and donors. It is because of these special Queenslanders that we are able to fulfill the Wishes of more people with a life limiting illness.’

‘We welcome the ongoing financial assistance from the Queensland Government and the fleet assistance of the Queensland Ambulance Service. On behalf of the Palliative Care Queensland Board, Staff and Volunteers, your contributions to a compassionate community are welcomed and vital,’  said Ms. O’Neill

Ms O’Neill noted that ‘as the next 200 Wishes are fulfilled, and Queensland’s population ages, the program will continue to showcase the holistic needs of Queenslanders that need to be met as they reach the end of their life.’

‘We are thankful for the generosity of our corporate and private donors. As this program grows, the need for greater financial support through sponsors and donors is paramount.’
